ABOUT US

After twenty years of existence, the Videofestival pronounces a new decade of video culture in the Ruhr area. From the 26th to 28th of May 2011, the Musisches Zentrum of the Ruhr-Universität will open its doors once again for the 21st International Videofestival Bochum.

Founded as an ambitious student initiative in 1991, the festival has established itself as a platform with a wide-ranging programme for all varieties of video production, true to its motto "3 days and 3 nights". Hence, the culture- and media landscape of the Ruhr area could not be imagined without this festival. Essential elements are, besides the International Video Competition, the AudioVisual Performance Contest and a selection of Video Installations which will be judged by an international jury of experts.

Moreover, the Musisches Zentrum of the Ruhr-Universität Bochum is not simply the venue of a competition, but a place of encounter. Video fans and enthusiasts, video amateurs and international professionals meet and exchange ideas here. In the framing programme, different specials relate to the latest trends and dispositions of the video scene. Speeches and discussions will comment on the wide subject of video art. To approach the original video aesthetics and its conditions of production, the separately announced MobileVideo Contest will be added to the programme this year.

True to our motto, we do not only the focus on the three days of the programme, but likewise on the nights and that means party time! At the three parties sound, visuals and culture join forces.
