The framing programme of the festival is composed of speeches and discussions aswell as video-specials (e.g. music- or animation-specials), which are shown off the competitions.

Every year we furthermore welcome a guest-festival, which presents itself with an info desk and shows own videos from its festival-programme at the Videobrunch - a public breakfast on the third festivalday.

20 years of Videofestival Bochum – that are not only two centuries of nice, entertaining or radical moving images but also a platform for discussions about definitions, use and the aesthetics of the medium. It’s time to take a stock: Why is the concept of “video” after the blank of the magtape still of importance? How do the technical changes influence the artistic potential? What does that mean for the democratic plight of the medium? And how did the Videofestival react to it?

The group “Sub-Art” was founded 1996 at University of Applied Science in Aachen by a professor for design together with young artists and designers. Focus of the artistic work is the element water. It is the base and inspiration that stands for a free experimental creativity.
The feeling of weightlessness in the depths of water, the borderline experience and the exploitation of this other dimension are crucial moments that broaden the consciousness and scope for design of the artist. “Sub-Art” connects art and design with science and latest technology.
